The whole Akshay-Mallika controversy

Mallika Dua and Vinod Dua (Mallika’s father), did not like the remarks made by Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar said “I like humour to be completely limitless. I also do not wish to be uncomfortable at the workplace.”

Akki’s comment on the co judge of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge didn’t go down well her father, Vinod Dua. He lashed out at Akshay Kumar on the social media. Vinod Dua who is a well-known journalist shared snippet of the laughter show on Facebook which were later deleted and wrote “I will not s**w this cretin, Akshay Kumar for making such a comment on his co-worker. He said “aap bell bajao main aap ko bajata hun”.

Akshay’s “Ring the bell” comment basically refers to the format of the show wherein the judges ring the bell for appreciating an act. According to the sources, the most controversial part was not even aired on the channel. Vinod Dua also told IANS- “I do not expect any apology from the channel since they haven’t aired the episode on the channel. But, I definitely expect apology from this fellow (Akshay Kumar). He denounced Siddharth Jadhav for his alleged racist comment about his Housefull 3 co-star, Lisa Haydon on the reality show, Comedy Nights Bachao.

So the highlights of this whole controversy are:

  1. Vinod Dua said that he expects an apology from the actor, Akshay Kumar
  2. The lines have been blurred, Mallika Dua
  3. Last year, the actor defended his co-star Lisa Haydon from a racist remark

However, as per the industry insiders, this video was leaked for Mallika for settling the scores with the channel for expelling her from the show. “This particular shoot happened ages ago. Why didn’t she say anything during this time? Why to take the statement out of the context and then create an issue for it?” asked a source, who was not willing to be identified.

Amul Mohan who is a trade analyst said, I think it’s just a sour grapes case as the mentors were fired. This happened when the shoot was happening and I am pretty sure this was shot about 10 to 15 days ago. Then, it does not make sense making noise now. It only shows that it is all being done because the channel fired her. The main point is that none of these people are television friendly as they have a particular market on the internet or some other platform of personal videos streaming, where there’s no censorship.”
